The End of the Golden Empire

In a recent YardBarker story, There is talk about Draymond not accepting a possible contract extension that Warrior management intends to offer him, signing him for another 3 years at his current price range for his CBA tier.

Rumor has it that Green and his agent will not sign anything, rather banking on Green's ability to put himself in line to be eligible to receive a SuperMax contract in 3 years.

If he does indeed become eligible for such a contract, and he demands it after taking quite a discount on his last one to help afford bring Kevin Durant to the Warriors, he could be the straw that breaks the camels back, as the team surely cannot afford another maxed out star's salary on top of what Curry is currently making, and what KD and Klay Thompson have coming this summer.

Perhaps they take turns taking discounts, but it is more likely that any talk of Draymond holding out until he can make his max earning potential will have a ripple effect on any Klay and KD contract negotiations in the next few weeks.

Draymond certainly won't receive a max offer over KD or Curry, maybe not even Klay. But we may end up seeing just how important Dray is to the Kerr Machine that has graced the Warriors' home court for the past 6 seasons once he is gone.

Anything could happen: KD could move on to browner pastures, Curry could turn to golf the way Jordan mysteriously* turned to baseball for a few years during a coffee break in the Bull's dynastic run in the 90's, maybe Klay moves to China to open a toaster factory, who knows?

But if all goes to plan, there are 3 more Larry O'Brien trophies to collect before things start to get as spicy as a giant bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos.

The luxury tax implications will be huge and perhaps the Warriors will make one of the Core 4 force their hand to begin the disassembling of the NBA's newest dynasty.

I never imagined Draymond to be the one to move on first, but he may be the first domino to fall. Dray$ indeed.

If this comes to pass, we may very well see the expiration date written on the wall: June, 2021.
