Preakness payouts 2018: Justify wins big, and betting results

0

We have the payouts from the 2018 Preakness Stakes on Saturday, as well as other results.

The 143rd running of the Preakness Stakes is over, and we have the betting and payout results for Saturday’s action. Justify won the race, ahead of Bravazo and Tenfold after a long battle with Good Magic, who pulled off near the end and finished fourth.

Justify’s bid for the Triple Crown is well alive going into the Belmont Stakes.

If you bet the $2 Exacta, the payout is $27.40. The 7-8-6 $1 Trifecta pays $148.30, while the $1 Superfecta pays $372.50

Throughout the entire race build-up, Justify was the favorite for the Preakness and the gap only increased as the race drew closer. Good Magic became solidified as the second-favorite, with the rest of the pack all +1000 or more by the time race day came around.

The total purse for the Preakness is $1.5 million, slightly less than the $2 million purse of the Derby. The winner takes $900,000, or 60 percent of the total purse.

Second place earns $300,000, third place takes $165,000, fourth place takes $90,000 and fifth place receives $45,000. That money is divided up by the horse’s owners, with the jockey, trainers and other staff getting small (comparatively) cuts.

Eight horses raced the Preakness this time around, and it varies from year-to-year. The only guarantee is that the field is much smaller than the 20-horse Kentucky Derby, which Justify won earlier in May. In doing so, Justify made history by becoming the first horse since Apollo in 1882 to win the Derby after not being raced as a two-year-old.
