Yadier Molina takes a foul ball right in the groin

0

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina had to leave Saturday’s game against the Chicago Cubs in the ninth inning after an unfortunate foul tip that hit Molina in the worst possible spot.

Kris Bryant was at the plate and got a piece of the 102-mph pitch from Jordan Hicks that proved to be Molina’s ouster. Molina was hit flush right between the legs and after a few moments writhing on the ground exited the field slowly under his own power, replaced behind the plate by Francisco Pena.

Molina is an eight-time All-Star and eight-time Gold Glove winner. He was 0-for-3 with a walk on Saturday to snap a brief four-game hitting streak. On the season Molina is batting .272/.296/.452 with six home runs in 30 games.
