GGG vs. Martirosyan live stream: How to watch the fight online
This is how you can watch Gennady Golovkin vs. Vanes Martirosyan on Saturday, on TV and streaming online.
The top two pound-for-pound best boxers in the world will be in action from the StubHub Center in Carson, California on Saturday. The first is Genneady Golovkin, the middleweight king with a 37-0-1 record, who will be defending his WBA (Super), WBC and IBO titles against Vanes Martirosyan after his rematch with Canelo Alvarez was cancelled. The second is Cecilia Braekhus, who will be defending her WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF welterweight titles against Kali Reis.
The action begins at 11 p.m. ET on HBO, and only those two bouts are part of the televised card. Fortunately, they’re both worth watching, even if Martirosyan isn’t the best opponent for “GGG” right now. The card can be live streamed online via a subscription to a service that carries HBO proper, such as Playstation Vue or SlingTV. Such services typically offer free trials, as well.
It can also be streamed — delayed — via HBO GO.
Golovkin’s last bout was in September 2017, when he and Alvarez fought to a draw. Many thought Golovkin won but, of course, many thought the opposite as well. Prior to that bout, Golovkin was very impressive in a decision victory over Daniel Jacobs.
After the Alvarez fight was cancelled, there was a scramble for a new opponent. Spike O’Sullivan was mentioned as a possible replacement, while the IBF wanted Golovkin to give mandatory challenger Sergey Derevyanchenko the bout. They granted him an exception, and other names like Demetrius Andrade and Billy Joe Saunders were floated as potential opponents.
The bout with Martirosyan wasn’t at the top of anybody’s list, but at the very least, Golovkin is staying active and we should get to see a nice showcase of his talents in advance of a potential bout with Derevyanchenko or a rematch with Alvarez.
Golovkin is going for his 20th consecutive title defense, which would tie Bernard Hopkins for the all-time record at the weight class.
Martirosyan has lost two of his last three, and has n’t fought since a May 2016 loss to Erislandy Lara. His last win was over Ishe Smith in September 2015.
