NCAA regionals posing challenge for promoters

Albany

Some of the nation's top women's basketball teams will be in Albany next weekend, along with thousands of their fans.

But on Sunday, the off day between games, if they're looking for a place to eat downtown, they may be out of luck.

Some of the Capital City's restaurants — including 677 Prime, dp An American Brasserie and La Serre, are closed on Sundays. Some smaller cafes and other shops that cater to weekday workers also may be closed.

It's one of the challenges downtown promoters face as they seek to welcome the NCAA Albany Regionals to the city.

"We will encourage (restaurants) to stay open on Sunday," said Michele Vennard, president and CEO of the Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
