Cal women earn sixth NCAA Tournament berth in seven seasons
The Cal women’s basketball team on Monday received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, the program’s sixth berth in the past seven years.
The Bears (21-10), celebrating the selection at Cornerstone in Berkeley, were given a No. 7 seed and will play Virginia at 2 p.m. Friday in Columbia, S.C.
The seventh seed is the Bears’ best since 2015, when they earned a No. 4 seed and lost to Texas in the second round. As a No. 2 seed in 2013, Cal advanced to the Final Four before losing to Louisville.
This season’s team doesn’t have quite the talent of the 2013 squad, which had four WNBA picks, but it has made steady improvement.
