Kevin Huerter makes strides with Maryland basketball

Kevin Huerter showed vast improvement from his freshman year to his sophomore year with the Maryland men's basketball team.

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound guard from Clifton Park (Shenendehowa High) was named a Big Ten Conference honorable mention by both the league coaches and the league media on Feb. 26. He started all 32 games and averaged 14.8 points (second on team) and 5.0 rebounds with 196 assists, 52 steals and 44 blocked shots. He connected on 73 of 175 3-point attempts (41.7 percent).

As a freshman, Huerter started all 33 games and averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds with 88 assists, 32 steals and 23 blocks. He hit 65 of 175 from outside the arc (37.1 percent).
