How fans of other NFL teams reacted to the Eagles’ win over the Patriots in Super Bowl 52
It was a mixed bag around SB Nation’s team sites as the Eagles won their first Super Bowl by taking down the Patriots, 41-33.
The Eagles are Super Bowl 52 champions, and even the teams that have lost to the Patriots in the Super Bowl in the past have mixed feelings about it.
We checked in with fans of the last two teams to suffer crushing Super Bowl losses to the Patriots, the Falcons and the Eagles.
Dave Choate, the editor-in-chief at SB Nation’s Falcons blog, The Falcoholic, was frustrated by all of the things the Patriots did to make things easier for the Eagles.
“Why did Bill Belichick not call for an over-the-shoulder pass to Tom Brady in Super Bowl LI?” Choate said. “Why did he not sit Malcolm Butler for some reason? Why did Matt Patricia not put together a defensive game plan that could be summed up as beardedly lackluster? Why?”
Matt Chambers over at The Falcoholic clearly isn’t over the Falcons’ loss last year to the Patriots as he drank his way through a “drunk recap” of the night.
Eagles win, 41-33. Football is stupid. Turns out that not being an idiot in the fourth quarter should result in a win. I can’t relate. Congrats Eagles fans.
drink
Is this what Patriots fans did after the game last year? Enjoyed some boring television of their owner and head coach giving some nondescript answers to stupid questions? If only the Falcons got the chance. They had more talent on the roster, but regrettably not with some of their coaches.
Kenneth Arthur, the managing editor at our Seahawks site, Field Gulls, sounded a little like Belichick when he told SB Nation that the Patriots just did their jobs against his favorite team in Super Bowl XLIX.
“I honestly don’t hold any bitterness or ill will towards the Patriots; they had a job to do and they did it. The Seahawks had the same job, but they fell just short that season,” Arthur said. “I don’t think anyone from that 2014 Seattle team should feel bad about what they accomplished or hold it against New England for winning.”
He’s not sorry the Eagles won, though.
“I wasn’t ‘rooting’ for or against either team, but I think it makes the NFL slightly more interesting to have the Eagles as the champions instead of the Patriots,” Arthur said.
We took a lap around our NFL team sites to see what other fans had to say after watching the Eagles beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl.
How did teams still waiting for a Super Bowl win react?
The Bengals, Bills, Browns, Cardinals, Chargers, Falcons, Jaguars, Lions, Panthers, Texans, Titans, and Vikings are all waiting for their first Lombardi Trophy.
One day Cardinals fans... One day.

Texans fans are ready to see if their quarterback can do what Nick Foles did.
Alright, @deshaunwatson. You’re up. #Texans

The win did offer hope to Bengals fans, as Cincy Jungle’s Patrick Judis explained how Cincinnati can copy the Eagles’ winning formula.
The Eagles drastically changed their team this offseason, and a lot of that was done through free agency and trades, but more of it had to do with the philosophy change, and finally getting players that could form a productive offense and defense. The coaching and quarterback changes were big deals, but finally getting in the personnel to execute the playbook was just as big. That is something the Bengals can do if they are aggressive enough to cut some cap constricting players and use that money to bring in talented players to compete.
Our Vikings blog lost to the Eagles in the NFC Championship, but they were still gracious about it.
Congratulations to the folks at @BleedingGreen.

The Jaguars almost punched a ticket to Super Bowl 52. Fans, including our friends at Big Cat Country, were still a little salty about that AFC Championship loss to the Patriots.

They had plenty of company.
The AFC East celebrated the Patriots’ downfall
Buffalo Rumblings, our Bills site, got a little extra enjoyment out of the Eagles’ win, because it also meant watching a hated AFC East rival lose.

The Phinsider, our Dolphins site, also had a little fun with the Patriots’ loss.
Fun fact: no one has lost more Super Bowls than the Patriots!

NFC East fans weren’t so thrilled about the Eagles’ win
RJ Ochoa at Blogging the Boys says that the Cowboys are officially looking up at the Eagles in the division after the win.
The reality here is that not only does this new reality suck, but the Eagles are the toast of the NFC East. Their victory officially marks the NFC East as the first division in the NFL to have all of its teams win a Super Bowl, but given the state of the NFL today, they are the undisputed kings of it.
Ed Valentine at our Giants site, Big Blue View, says New York’s fans should just get used to it.
Philadelphia just won a Super Bowl without its best player and leader, Carson Wentz. In addition to Wentz, DT Fletcher Cox, WR Alshon Jeffery, DT Timmy Jernigan, DE Vinny Curry, OT Lane Johnson, DB Rodney McLeod, TE Zach Ertz, C Jason Kelce and DB Malcolm Jenkins are among the player signed thru 2020, and in some cases beyond.
The Eagles are going to be good for a while.
The Eagles should be contenders for the foreseeable future.
Lions and Colts fans had some thoughts about their new coaches
The Lions made their hire of former Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia official on the Monday after the Super Bowl. Jeremy Reisman at Pride of Detroit thinks the fact that Patricia’s defense got lit up for 538 yards and 41 points shouldn’t discourage Lions fans.
Patricia took this ragtag group of players, and made them at least respectable by the end of the year. It may not have looked that way in his last game as a Patriot, but Patricia’s hands were tied from the beginning.
Colts fans still have some questions about Josh McDaniels, their team’s new head coach. Matt Danely at Stampede Blue explains:
McDaniels will begin his tenure with the Colts with some uncertainty with the quarterback position until Andrew Luck shows up at, or near, 100 percent, and a roster with a lot of holes on both sides of the ball. He will also face some concerns as to how well he will fit in, as well as how successful he can be with a healthy amount of Colts fans still hanging on to his previous failure as the Denver Broncos head coach.
Stampede Blue also didn’t seem to feel terribly sorry for the Patriots, a longtime rival.
Let’s face it, nobody feels bad for the Patriots with their five Super Bowl wins (other than Patriots fans). But, it’s pretty easy to be happy for the Eagles, especially if you’re not a fan of a rival NFC East team.
