Listen to Nick Foles ask Doug Pederson to call that reverse TD pass in the Super Bowl

0

The “Philly special” was Foles’ idea.

It was Nick Foles, not head coach Doug Pederson, who first suggested the Eagles run a trick play to score the most memorable touchdown of Super Bowl 52. We know that because Showtime’s microphones caught the deliberations between Foles and his coach before the play:

There’s more here:

“We’re going for it right here,” Pederson says as the Eagles face fourth-and-goal from the Patriots 1-yard line late in the second quarter.

“Philly, Philly?” Foles asks his coach.

“Yeah, let’s do it,” Pederson tells his QB after about one second of thinking.

Foles goes into his huddle and makes the call: “Philly special. Ready?”

Then the Eagles do it, and the result is a complete conning of the Patriots’ defense that extended Philadelphia’s lead to 10 points at halftime.

Pederson and Foles both said after the game that they had been working on that play for a couple of weeks, waiting for the exact right time to go to it in a game. That time came.
