HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (8-13, 6-9 G-MAC) lost 69-65 at Hillsboro College (14-4, 11-3 G-MAC) on Saturday in Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES: The all-time series is now even at 1-1. The Trojans beat the Chargers 68-57 on Nov. 30 at Trojan Fieldhouse.

                                                                 

GAME CHRONICLE

The score remained tight early in the first quarter, but Hillsdale pulled ahead by eight (14-6) with 3:38 left in the quarter. With 2:28 left in the quarter and the Chargers leading by eight (16-8) the Trojans scored seven straight to trail by one (16-15) at the end of the first. Hillsdale improved their lead to four early, but Trevecca turned the game in their favor and led by five (30-25) following a three-pointer by Brianna Bryant with 5:00 left in the half. The Trojans led 37-34 at the break. Hillsdale opened the third with a three pointer, tying the game at 37-37 and pushed ahead by six (46-40) with a 12-3 start to the half. Callie Hackett capped a 7-0 Trojan response with a three-pointer, putting the Trojans up 47-46 with 3:51 left in the third frame. Hillsdale led by one (52-51) at the end of the third. Olivia Pepperman hit a pair of free throws to start the fourth for a one point (53-52) Trojan lead. It marked the last lead for the Trojans. Hillsdale led 67-61 with :33 remaining and the Trojans made it interesting cutting the lead to just two with :10 remaining following four consecutive points by Bryant all at the foul line. The Trojans could not get closer and fell 69-65.

 

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Both teams scored 16 points off of turnover. Hillsdale found an edge in points in the paint (22-18) and second chance scoring (13-8). Trevecca topped the Chargers in points off the bench (6-4). Trevecca shot 40.7% (22-54) from the field, 40% (8-20) from three, and 86.7% (13-15) from the foul line. Hillsdale found more advantage in rebounding 44-31, but Trevecca only turned the ball over 12 times to the Chargers 16. Chargers shot 37.1% (23-62) from the field, 37% (10-27) from three, and 68.4% (13-19) from the line. Though the Trojans outshot the Chargers, the home team had more chances with additional possession including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds translating into eight more chances from the field with seven of those coming from deep.

 

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Four Trojans reached double digit scoring. Brittin Boyer led the way with 16 points while Brianna Bryant (13), Olivian Pepperman (13), and Callie Hackett (12) joined her in a balanced scoring attack. Boyer and Pepperman each collected seven rebounds while Hackett chipped in six. Hackett led in assists while Bryant had a team-high two steals. Makenna Ott led the Chargers with 21 points and 11 boards.     

 

WHAT'S NEXT    

Trevecca returns home for a two-game homestand, they are two of the final three home dates of the year. On Thursday, February 1 the Trojans host Ohio Dominican University at 6 PM at Trojan Fieldhouse. On Saturday, February 3rd Cedarville University visits at 2 PM. The final home date and senior day is Saturday, February 24th when Ohio Valley University visits for a 2 PM game.

 

Ohio Dominican leads the series 2-0. The Panthers won this seasons previous meeting, 76-54, on December 9th in Columbus, OH. Cedarville leads the all-time series 8-3. The Yellow Jackets are on a five game win streak in the series, having defeated the Trojans, 75-60, earlier this season on December 7th in Cedarville, OH. Trevecca leads the series with Ohio Valley 8-1 and are on a three-game win streak in the series. TNU defeated the Fighting Scots 64-59 in their last meeting on January 11th in Vienna, WV.
