[Men's Basketball] Hornets Hold Down Miners in Final Game Before Break

ROLLA, MO- After a heartbreaking loss to NCAA Division II Maryville University, the Hornets traveled to the Saints fellow GLVC rival, Missouri University of Science and Technology. HSSU redeemed themselves and came out with a 96-87 win over the Miners.

Four Hornets scored in double-digits in today's win; Dwane Miner (SR/Gates County, NC) led all scorers with 26 points while Deandre Clark (JR/Orange, VA) scored 18 of his own. Corey Wells Jr. (JR/New Orleans, LA) and Christian Wimbley (JR/St. Louis, MO) both chipped in 15 a piece while Jamal Hinton (SR/St. Louis, MO) had a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Miners were paced by Roman Louiserre's 24 points on 9-12 shooting. Chris Harris was right behind him with 22 points while Allante Pickens, Ervin Sarajilc, and Sebastian Ferenc all recorded double-digit points.

S&T jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game. Harris-Stowe finally got on the board when Miner hit a mid-range jumper. Miner would hit back-to-back shots to get the Hornets down by six.

Harris-Stowe continued to chip away at the Miner's lead in the first half. They took their first lead of the game when Clark found Wells, Jr. wide open on the three-point line and make it 26-24 with 7:15 left on the clock.

Both teams traded points throughout the last minutes and ended the half when Hinton grabbed an offensive rebound and had a good put-back to push the Hornets lead to 43-35.

Harris-Stowe came back hot in the second half, extending their lead to 26 after Miner hit another shot from behind the arc. But, just like the Hornets did in the first half, S&T went on a 17-4 run to cut HSSU's lead to 81-68 with 4:39 left in the game.

The Miners would never be able to catch the Hornets as Jeremy Verges (SO/St. Louis, MO), Deandre Clark, and Altez Davis (SR/Danville, IL) all scored in the last 50 seconds to secure a 96-87 Harris-Stowe win.

HSSU ended the game shooting 47% from the field and 45% from behind the arc. With the win, the Hornets move to 7-5 heading into the holiday break. They will play again on the 28th at William Woods University and at home against Columbia College on the 30th.
