Martellus Bennett rips the Packers for how they handled his shoulder injury
Bennett said he’d tell his side of the story at some point. He did it on Friday via his Instagram story.
Martellus Bennett said he’d someday tell his side of what led to the Packers waiving him. That day came on Friday, when Bennett took to Instagram to unload on Green Bay for the way the team handled his torn rotator cuff.
“This shit crazy bruhhhh, wow,” is how Bennett kicked things off. He then dove right into explaining what happened between him and the Packers.
Bennett goes on to say that the Packers’ team doctor, Dr. Pat McKenzie, tried to talk him into playing through the injury. He says that now McKenzie is trying to “cover his own ass.”
He says the Packers have access to all of his medical records and should know that this injury got worse while playing in Green Bay. Bennett was not happy with the way McKenzie approached his treatment.
Bennett revealed that players have to fill out a body evaluation sheet in the weight room each day. He said he circled his shoulder every single day on the sheet. During the bye week, he stopped using anti-inflammatory medication. The pain got worse, and he asked the team to examine his shoulder again.
“They knew,” Bennett wrote on his story.
Bennett says that was not his intention at all.
Bennett didn’t spend much time on the waiver wire. He was snapped up by the Patriots, so he returns to the team he won a Super Bowl with just last season. He passed his physical with New England and practiced with the team Friday — despite saying on Instagram that he chose to have surgery. He is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Broncos.
It’s a good sign that Bennett is healthy enough to practice, and he could make an impact with the Patriots right away. But he sure isn’t happy with the Packers.
