Deshaun Watson tore his ACL in practice, according to report
This is terrible news for the rookie and for the Texans.
Deshaun Watson landed on the Texans’ injury report with a knee injury on Wednesday. Unfortunately, it’s a torn ACL for the star rookie quarterback, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and a follow up report from Adam Schefter.
Watson was listed as limited on the Texans’ Wednesday injury report. It was a non-contact injury.
Watson will undergo an MRI to evaluate the extent of the injury. If he is unable to play, the team is likely to revert back to Tom Savage as the starter for now. Savage was benched midway through the Texans’ Week 1 loss to the Jaguars.
It didn’t take Watson long to prove that he should be the Texans’ starting quarterback. He’s thrown 19 touchdowns this season, which ties him at the top of the league alongside Carson Wentz. He also broke Kurt Warner’s record for the most touchdowns in the first seven games of his career.
He became the first player in NFL history to throw for over 400 yards in four consecutive games in Houston’s heartbreaking loss to the Seahawks in Week 8. Watson and Fran Tarkenton are the only rookies to ever throw four touchdowns in each of three consecutive games.
He tore his ACL in October 2014 during a practice while he was at Clemson. That same week, he led the Tigers to a 35-17 victory over South Carolina and finished the season with the partially torn ligament.
We’ll have more on this situation as it develops.
