Flyers vs. Blackhawks 2017 live stream: Start time, TV channel, and how to watch online
Chicago has lost five of its last six games, but is facing an injury-riddled Flyers team on Wednesday.
The Chicago Blackhawks will have the chance to break a three-game losing streak during their Wednesday night matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Blackhawks and Flyers will meet for the first time this season at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN (live stream).
It’s been tough sledding for the Blackhawks so far this season. Chicago is 5-5-2 on the year through 12 games with just 12 points in the standings. Injuries have hit the team hard, and their aging defensive core of Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook looks older by the day.
The Flyers, on the other hand, haven’t looked as grim, but are still aching from injuries. Second overall pick Nolan Patrick will sit once again after taking a hard hit against Anaheim, while electric defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere won’t make the team’s road trip due to injury.
While the Flyers’ goaltending has been hit or miss this year, Corey Crawford has been a standout so far for the Blackhawks. Philadelphia will have to find a way to crack the stoic netminder if they want to walk away with two points on the road.

Flyers vs. Blackhawks news:
- The Flyers will be facing two excellent goaltenders over the next few days:
Via hockey-reference.com, the Chicago Blackhawks enter tonight’s game having stopped 92.46 percent of all shots that they’ve faced so far this season (excluding empty-net goals against). That’s the third-best mark in the NHL. And if that wasn’t enough, the St. Louis Blues, the Flyers’ opponent on Thursday, have stopped 92.81 percent of all shots they’ve faced, which is second-best in the league so far.
- There’s no Flyer having a better start than Sean Couturier, and he’s now playing on the team’s top power-play unit:
Couturier’s sudden presence on the top power play unit is most likely attributable to the hot start that he’s had elsewhere. His seven goals entering Monday night led the Flyers, and all seven of those came at even strength.
- Are we getting more of the same from the Blackhawks?
The forwards haven’t looked right since the first two games of the season, when the Hawks took advantage of facing backup goalies of teams who were playing on the tail-end of a back-to-back. It’s November 1st and Joel Quenneville has already taken the Blackhawks forward lines, put them in a blender, and hit frappé. Brandon Saad is even better than we remembered and Patrick Kane is still one of the league’s most lethal offensive weapons. Outside of that? I haven’t seen enough to convince me that this is a team that’s going to hang with the best of the West come April.
- What’s missing on the Blackhawks’ blue line, and how can they solve it?
But when you look at the Blackhawks D corps right now, it’s hard to find players that Quenneville can rely on to handle the shutdown role. Right now, the best option would probably be Keith and Seabrook. But putting those two on the ice in such a defensive role prevents them from doing what has made the Hawks so good in the not-that-distant past.
Flyers vs. Blackhawks prediction:
Philadelphia will be icing a very inexperienced defensive lineup thanks to the absences of Gostisbehere and veteran Andrew MacDonald. The Blackhawks will take advantage and snap out of their losing streak on home ice.
