Notre Dame QB Brandon Wimbush leaves NC State game with injury
Wimbush’s status is unclear, but we’ll update this post.
Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush left the Irish’s game against NC State with about 13 minutes to play on Saturday. Wimbush walked off gingerly after taking a hard, apparently legal hit on a third-down play. Notre Dame led, 35-14, and it appeared unlikely that Wimbush would return to the game given that lead.
NBC’s cameras caught Wimbush standing up on the sideline, talking with team medical staffers. He had walked off the field under his own power, a good sign. Wimbush appeared to have a lower-body injury of some sort, with the nature of it unclear.
The Irish’s backup QB is Ian Book, a sophomore from El Dorado Hills, Calif. Book started and won at North Carolina a couple of weeks ago, through for 146 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions on 31 attempts. He’s not as fluid an athlete as Wimbush, who’s established himself this year as a dangerous dual-threat talent.
As more information becomes available on Wimbush’s status, we’ll update this post.
