Carson Palmer broke his arm in Cardinals’ shutout loss to Rams

0

He was taken to the locker room, and ruled out.

Carson Palmer left the Cardinals’ game against the Rams on Sunday with a left arm injury. The Cardinals ruled him as questionable to return, and would later announce him out for the game.

The team confirmed that Palmer’s arm is broken. He will need surgery and will miss at least eight weeks, the Cardinals announced after the game.

Palmer was replaced by Drew Stanton at quarterback for Arizona. Palmer came into the game completing nearly 62 percent of his passes for 1,856 yards with nine touchdowns against six picks. There’s not exactly a high bar for Stanton to live up to in his place.

What does this mean for the Cardinals? Palmer left the game with his team down 13-0. Stanton has been with the team since 2014, and has made nine starts since then. He’s 6-3 in those starts, and while he’s not going to be the quarterback you’d love to have as your backup, he’s shown he can do just enough to get things done.

The Cardinals’ offense got a boost last week after trading for Adrian Peterson, and they’ll need him to have a similar performance the rest of the game, especially if Palmer is going to be absent.
