Trade Clarkson now or when his value gets too low at the end of the season?
Clarkson has gone from a bright spot in his rookie year and now into a regressed disappointment. He's a guard who can score 10 points a night, but fail to do anything else. He's athletic to be a good defender, but like Randle, they don't want to commit to it. You can say before this year, we could have got Clarkson for at least a late first rounder. Those late first rounders are still worth something with our draft history( Zubac, Clarkson, Nance, Kuzma, Hart). From last year's all star break, Luke benched Russell for a couple of games in order to start Clarkson. Clarkson then had a pretty good stretch where he averaged 18" plus per game. The reason why he averaged so much was because he had the ball in his hands the whole time. Take the ball away and try to make him a spot up shooter or cutter is useless on this roster.
The problem is do we trade him now while he has some value or keep waiting. It's funny how he thrives in Byron Scott's system and not Luke's free flowing system. Clarkson needs the ball in his hands a lot and it won't happen in our system. I suggested we should have traded him in the summer. Even in the preseason, you see what happens if he doesn't start and control the ball. What could we really get for him? His contract is not worth his production and he's young enough for a team to take a chance on him. Can he still fetch a 1st rounder? At worst a second rounder?
