Warriors cover the championship parade bill

0

Golden State has somewhat reluctantly agreed to pay the remaining balance for the 2017 title parade

The dispute between the Golden State Warriors and the city of Oakland, centering around the cost of the 2015 and 2017 championship parades, has been ongoing. And after Oakland lowered the cost earlier in the week, the Warriors decided to bite the bullet and pay up. Or at least mostly pay up:

The statement only references the 2017 parade. The 2015 parade, which the Warriors claim they’ve paid for but the city denies, is likely still in limbo.

While it’s good that this kerfuffle will be mostly behind both parties, it’s impossible not to note the snark from Golden State’s end. The statement from the Warriors makes it very clear that they are unhappy with both the price tag and the process.

On the one hand, it’s understandable for the Dubs to be a little miffed about the cost dramatically exceeding the estimate. On the other hand, they did promise to foot the bill as a gift to the city.

It’s certainly a messier ending than both sides hoped for, but it’s good to see some resolution. The real question now, is if “out of an abundance of goodwill” will become the next “light years”.
