Iowa State will wear helmets with this dope new Cyclone logo on them against Texas

Oh, this is clean.

This is a pretty good game to unveil helmets featuring your new logo, Iowa State. The Cyclones are taking on the Texas Longhorns at Jack Trice Stadium on Thursday night, and just a couple hours before kickoff, ISU announced the new cyclone logo on the team’s helmets that’ll be unveiled against the Longhorns.

Man, these babies are clean, and this logo really does look dang good. In Iowa State’s release, it clarified that the image will serve as the new secondary nickname logo for the athletics department. The I-State logo, which has been on the Cyclones’ helmets for years, will still serve as Iowa State’s primary athletics logo, though.

Iowa State's sports teams have been known as the Cyclones since 1895 when Coach Pop Warner's team upset Northwestern 36-0 and a Chicago Tribune headline the next day reported "Struck by a Cyclone: It comes from Iowa and Devastates Evanston Town."

Iowa State has used various forms of Cyclone marks occasionally in its history. But, officially adding a Cyclone symbol that depicts the school's long-time nickname this season is a significant brand enhancement.

Having this new Cyclones logo on these helmets is definitely an upgrade from that I-State logo, in my humble opinion. These new helmets should look pretty sweet under the lights against Texas on Thursday night.

Well done, Iowa State.
