Philadelphia sports teams experienced the saddest 8 minutes in recent memory

0

It doesn’t get much worse than this.

Being a Philadelphia sports fan is a singular experience that brings together disappointment, despair and desperation. Fans got all three on Sunday afternoon, in the span of eight minutes.

3:38 p.m.

For a while it felt like the Eagles were going to make a statement. They were going to beat the Chiefs, riding high after blowing out the Patriots. It didn’t even matter that Carson Wentz threw a terrible pass, because it landed in Zach Ertz hands.

It wasn’t to be. The Eagles ended up losing 27-20.

3:45 p.m.

The Eagles lost in Kansas City, but that was an away game. Surely it couldn’t apply to home, right? The Phillies hosted the A’s and in the top of the sixth Joey Wendle blasted a grand slam to put the visitors up 6-3.

Unfortunately the Phillies couldn’t come back, and the team fell to 58-91.

3:46 p.m.

Not you too, Flyers! Sure, it was only NHL preseason — but not like this, not like this. Much like their fellow Philly sports teams, the Flyers gave up a late lead and ended up losing in overtime.

I’m sorry Philly, but even you have to be able to laugh at what a tragic eight minutes this was. It’s okay, because a hero is waiting in the wings ...
