Nebraska and Oregon had 2 catch of the year candidates in the 1st quarter
One sick grab is fine, but how ‘bout two?
In just 15 minutes of play, both Oregon and Nebraska have submitted claims for the mythical Catch Of The Year competition that totally needs to be an actual college football award.
On the fifth offensive play of the game, Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert hit Brenden Schooler for this really nice grab.
Not to be outdone, Nebraska’s Tanner Lee hit De'Mornay Pierson-El for this on-the-money TD as well.
As far as degree of difficulty goes, I think I’ll give Pierson-El the edge. I know he used his facemask to haul this in, but the concentration while the Oregon defender is trying to break up the catch is next-level. Pierson essentially has to drape himself all over that defensive to even give himself a chance at the catch, and Oregon was actually flagged for defensive pass interference on the play.
With plenty of game left, here’s hoping we get some more catches to freak out over.
