Colorado State LB celebrates the first pick-six of 2017 with this sweet belt

0

A 44-yard return got Tre Thomas a touchdown and a nice belt.

Throughout Saturday, we’ve been ticking off the college football season’s firsts. Those have included the first Division I touchdown, the first FBS TD, the first massive hit on a quarterback who somehow bounced back, and the first refereeing controversy.

Another one on the list: the first pick-six. That comes courtesy of Colorado State linebacker Tre Thomas, who intercepted an Oregon State pass in the season opener and trotted it 44 yards the other way for a touchdown.

It’s a delightful play, and it’s very college football. Oregon State quarterback Jake Luton was under duress, and he tried to flick the ball off to a teammate who was wide open, but he missed him, and of course the ball caromed perfectly into the waiting arms of a hard-charging player on the other team. If you’ve seen it once, you’ve seen it 74 times, and you’ll see it dozens more times in 2017. This will always be first, though.

Alabama has a championship belt for players who force turnovers, and it’s become a bona fide thing. Colorado State appears to have something similar ongoing.

Seven points and a belt: a good reward for a good play.
