Alabama’s been No. 1 during 10 straight years. What have you done for 10 straight years?

Probably not been ranked No. 1 in the world at something. But that’s OK!

The preseason AP Top 25 is out. The No. 1 team is Alabama, and of course it’s Alabama. The Tide have now spent time at No. 1 in each season since 2008.

That’s 10 seasons in a row, apparently already a record:

The Tide have four national titles in that span. They’ve never finished lower than 10th in the AP Poll, and only three times have they landed outside the top four. This is only the fourth time in the last decade that the Tide have started the year No. 1, per Sports Reference. To me, that’s surprisingly low, which speaks to how good they’ve been.

Being ranked No. 1 sometime in every year for 10 years is hard. So we asked some folks about what they’ve done every year since 2008.

There are certain basics — breathing, sleeping, peeing, watching Survivor, eating turkey sandwiches — that I’d hope everyone’s done every year. But beyond that?
