Fantasy Football 2017: Performance of rookie wide receivers in preseason Week 2

0

A look at the most notable wide out performances of preseason Week 2.

Half of the NFL Preseason is now in the books. This week we saw more of the rookie class and started to feel out who has potential to make an impact in fantasy once the regular gets underway. So to that end, here are some notable rookie wide receivers that are in the mix after preseason Week 2 and have the potential to make an impact for fantasy owners.

Zay Jones, Buffalo Bills

Things started to turn around for Jones in the Bills preseason Week 2 matchup against Philadelphia. Jones was targeted six times and caught three passes for 42 yards, leading all receivers. Recent payer departures have moved Jones to the top of the Bills depth chart.

Jones will have to step up to the plate earlier than anticipated now that Anquan Boldin has decided to retire. Boldin is the second big name receiver to leave the team in the preseason. The Bills still plan to use their second-round pick as the deep threat, but his production will increase significantly now. Owners stand to benefit greatly now that Jones had more guaranteed production.

Corey Davis, Tennessee Titans

We are yet to see action from Davis, who sat again in preseason Week 2 with a hamstring injury . The top wide receiver in the 2017 draft is expected to make his career debut this preseason. Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said Davis is “ahead of schedule” in his recovery.

The Titans have big plans for their top pick this season. With Marcus Mariota’s arm and Davis’ talent he should come in making a big impact for owners, assuming he stays healthy. Given all of his upside Davis is well within the WR1 conversation.

Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams

Kupp found the end zone in his second NFL game. He caught six passes on seven targets for 70 yards also. The third-round pick has eight catches for 105 yards through two preseason games.

Kupp has been eclipsed by Sammy Watkins in the Rams receiving core conversation, but he has built a rapport with QB Jared Goff as one of his go-to receivers. Owners should keep an eye on Kupp while he is getting so much attention from Goff.

ArDarius Stewart, New York Jets

Stewart has not made much noise this preseason. He has three catches for 31 yards through two preseason games. He has been targeted only four times.

While his stat line is not very impressive, the Jets find themselves in a place of desperation at wide receiver. Quincy Enunwa is out for the season with a neck injury and other receivers are battling injury as well. Stewart has moved to the top of the depth chart and the Jets will need him to produce. Owners that want to take a risk on Stewart should appreciate his number of targets.
