Minor League teams are embracing the solar eclipse with special uniforms

These are super cool.

On Monday, as the moon passes over the sun and blocks out the sky through one path of the country, seven minor league baseball teams will be affected by the timing in various parts of the country.

They are the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, Idaho Falls Chukars, Bowling Green Hot Rods, Nashville Sounds, Greenville Drive, Columbia Fireflies and Charleston RiverDogs. To celebrate the occasion, and for some teams work around the delay caused by the eclipse, the organizations are breaking out some special uniforms and events.

You can see the full list of events for each team with a Monday game (only six of them do) here. The special events range from programs put on by NASA scientists to pre-game educational events to a mid-game delay for a game specifically played in the morning to revolve around the event.

The definite best part of the fun though is the three teams that are wearing special uniforms for the occasion: the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, Bowling Green Hot Rods, and Columbia Fireflies.

The S-K Volcanoes jerseys are metal as hell, with the most realistic representation of the sun on any of the three limited edition shirts. Also, the moon’s phases relatively resemble the seams on a baseball which is a nice bonus.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods also did a great job, with the home team representing the moon and their opponents wearing a shirt with the sun on it. It works on more than a celebratory level, since the moon will technically defeat the sun during the eclipse and hopefully the home team will too.

The Columbia Fireflies’ jersey looks fine at first, just as a decently cool eclipse on the back of the shirt around the number. But then when you look at the reveal, that it glows in the dark, it suddenly becomes awesome.

If I were a local fan of any of these teams, I would be pretty proud of their creativity. As it is, they’re pretty cool looks to admire from afar as well.
