James Harrison is doing behind-the-back clap pushups because normal ones aren’t badass enough

Harrison is 39, but works out like he’s 22.

James Harrison is one of the oldest players in the NFL, but he can keep up with the youngest when it comes to his intense strength training.

Tuesday morning, the 39-year-old posted a video of himself on Instagram doing pushups — except with an added behind-the-back clap. It was an impressive showing of not just his strength, but his nimbleness too.

Imagine being so good and bored with regular pushups, that you decide to do this:

This past weekend, Harrison posted a video of himself putting in work during a game of volleyball played with a medicine ball.

It wasn’t your regular workout my abs medicine ball either. This one had some size to it.

His work has raised so many eyebrows this offseason, that he’s already been drug tested three times.

Harrison has posted some other workout videos on his Instagram that he’s since deleted. It’s unfortunate, but if you’ve consumed online content within the past few years, certainly you’ve seen him doing a number of impressive workouts. They’ve ranged from one-arm barbell shoulder presses, to 250-pound pull ups, and a variety of other pushes and pulls.

His workouts aren’t just amazing to people outside of football. His teammate Cam Heyward told ESPN at the beginning of last season it sets a standard in the Steelers’ locker room.

“You see a guy like that who takes care of himself on and off the field, you have no reason to be complaining,” Cam Heyward said. “If a guy can do it at that age, you should be able to do it at 22.”

If Harrison keeps putting in the same effort, he can probably expect more drug tests. At this point, he should take them as a compliment — not many people can do what he does.
