Hornets GM accidentally introduced Dwayne Bacon as 'Dwyane Wade' and everyone started laughing
And now we have a new reaction meme.
The Hornets have new rookies eagerly waiting to play next season: Kentucky’s Malik Monk and Florida State University’s Dwayne Bacon. On Friday, Hornets GM Rich Cho spent a few minutes introducing Bacon and Monk to the local media, although there was a little accident during his intro. As Cho named his new players, he got to Bacon and accidentally called him Dwyane Wade, an entirely different player on an entirely different NBA team.
All three guys had excellent reactions to the gaffe:
Cho managed to save face, though, according to the Charlotte Observer:
But Cho, through embarrassed laughs, doubled down on his inadvertent introduction.
“Actually,” he said, “I think they have some similarities.”
It was high praise, even if accidental. And Bacon later agreed with Cho, who also compared the former Seminole to seven-time All-Star Joe Johnson.
“They’re smooth players that can score the ball,” Bacon said. “And I fall right in that bracket.”
Still, his name’s Dwayne Bacon, which is a deliciously unique name for an NBA player. Maybe it’s because we’ve all spent 14 years getting used to saying “Wade” after every time Dwayne/Dwyane is said out loud. Also, Bacon was really close to doing the Drew Scanlon/“White Guy Blinking” meme, and if he blinked a couple times, it would have been perfect.
