Cavs, Spurs talking about Danny Green trade
San Antonio’s asking price is understandably considered high.
As it looks less and less likely that the Cavs will be able to swing a deal for either Paul George or Jimmy Butler, another name has surfaced.
Per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Cavs and Spurs have talked about a deal involving swingman Danny Green. The Spurs’ asking price is considered “high.”

Green, 30, started his career with the Cavs after being drafted in the second round out of North Carolina. He, however, played one unsuccessful year in Cleveland before blossoming in San Antonio. He’s also the type of two-way player the Cavs need to acquire if they want to have a better shot against the Warriors next year.
The details of a possible deal are still unknown, but it might be hard to get Green from the Spurs. Salary wise — Green is set to make $10 million next year and signed through 2018-19 — Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith or combinations of other players could work. Cleveland’s 2021 first round pick could be a sweeter, as could Cedi Osman considering Spurs coach Gregg Poppovich’s penchant for international talent.
Green isn’t George or Butler, so he’s not worth trading Kevin Love for. But if Cleveland — whoever is actually calling the shots right now — could swing a deal, it wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize.
