LSU blocks player from transferring to TCU amid alleged illegal contact, per reports

The Louisiana-Texas saga continues.

Things just keep coming out between Texas and Louisiana. LSU offensive tackle Willie Allen has reportedly been blocked from transferring to TCU. According to the Star-Telegram, Allen’s request to transfer and be with the Horned Frogs was denied, and he’s also prohibited from going to another SEC school.

Allen’s choice? TCU, a request that LSU promptly denied, according to multiple sources between Baton Rouge and Stadium Drive in Fort Worth. A source said that an LSU appeals committee ruled Thursday that Allen would be released from his scholarship, provided he transfers anywhere but to a Southeastern Conference school or TCU.

Blocking certain transfers from schools is always a bad look, but this one’s especially interesting given the current satellite camp drama between Texas and LSU. According to Division III Belhaven head coach Hal Mumme, the scheduled high school camp that would include both Texas and LSU coaches was cancelled due to “political pressure” from LSU. Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron’s explanation is simple: His job is to keep Louisiana in Louisiana.

“When we do our camps in Louisiana, we have a representation of 10 other colleges in Louisiana,” he said. “And it’s affordable so that every young man in the state of Louisiana who wants to come can, to come and get offered a scholarship. Ten schools ... that’s 250 scholarships that could been offered there. There’s a lot of young men who come to our camp with offers from smaller schools who get offers from that camp.”

As far as the Allen situation goes, The Advocate reported that there was a reason TCU was blocked by LSU.

LSU said there was illegal contact between a TCU staff member and Allen, a source told The Advocate — the reason for the decision. Allen declined an interview request Friday, sending this text message: "I have nothing but love and respect for Coach O and all of my brothers at LSU."

The paper’s Ross Dellenger reported that Allen was allegedly recruited by TCU while he was still at LSU.

"I don’t like it, and don’t think it’s right," Allen’s former position coach Jerry Godfrey said via The Advocate. "The whole reason for leaving LSU is his and our business. It had nothing to do with any other school or anything else.”

LSU blog And The Valley Shook wrote in its story on Allen’s transfer last week that this block could be a possibility.

TCU has been the rumored landing spot, but LSU is blocking that, largely because they suspect some tampering in play. Allen says he plans on opening up his recruitment. He had offers from virtually every major program out of high school.

One of the more notable blocked transfer stories from this offseason happened earlier this month, when Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder blocked his former player’s list of 35 schools. After initially pushing back and standing by his decision, Snyder later granted Corey Sutton a full release.
