DBB Mock Offseason - Cavs by RipHamilton

0

Hi everyone!

We were making a mock offseason at the DetroitBadBoys and by lottery I got Cavs. Made some trades before the Draft and I would like to get your feedback. I know people are very touchy when it comes to the team they support so even if you really hate the deal, I trust your kindness. That being said, here are the trades I did so far.

Trade 1

Cavaliers send: Tristan Thompson

Cavaliers get: Jeremy Lin, 2017 #22 pick, 2017 #32 pick

Trade 2

Cavs send: Kevin Love

Cavs get: Brook Lopez, Marquess Chriss, Derrick Jones Jr, 2017 #54 pick

Trade 3

Cavs send: Channing Fry

Cavs get: Nemanja Bjelica, Tyus Jones, 2017 #55 pick

Starting 5 - Kyrie Irving, JR Smith, Lebron James, Marquese Chriss, Brook Lopez

Backup 5 - Tyus Jones, Jeremy Lin, Iman Shumpert, Richard Jefferson, Nemanja Bjelica

Rest - Kay Felder, Derrick Jones Jr.

My main goal was to start building future for the Cavs without totally giving up on today. Therefore adding young talents and decreasing the guaranteed payroll was important.

The Reasoning of the trades:

1- I think Tristan Thompson is a great rebounder but I think he is a little bit overpayed. I thought I could upgrade my bench by trading Thompson and replace Thompson by signing a veteran who can rebound and defend at a minimum contract. Jeremy Lin is an upgrade over Deron Williams as the backup PG and he can also play 2 with Kyrie and Lebron. I believe this year we have a good draft class and #22 and #32 can bring some valuable prospects.

2- Giving up Kevin Love was not easy. I really like him and I might have sold him for cheap a little bit, but I did that trade because I am really high on Marquese Chriss. Also, Kevin Love does not fit very well next to Kyrie and Lebron in my opinion. Brook Lopez will definitely fill the offensive gap that the absence of Kevin Love will create. Derrick Jones and #54 are investments for the future.

3- The contract of Channing Fry was just too expensive and he is really old. I think he might be done with his career at this point. Bjelice brings 3pt shooting and Tyus Jones will compete with Kay Felder for that 3rd point guard spot in the team.

So we have Draft Day and Free Agency ahead. Let me know what you think! Thanks for reading my post and also English is not my native language so if I did some mistakes please forgive me.
