The Warriors will probably be the NBA’s kings for a long time

0

We recap the Finals, ponder if anyone can stop the Warriors, and go in on retired players in this week’s episode.

The Warriors, as we all expected, just clinched the 2017 NBA title. It took fewer games than some of us expected (hoped?), but the outcome we all knew would happen did indeed happen.

So now what? To help us figure out the answer to that overarching question, we invited two frequent guests to this week’s podcast. Michael Pina, an NBA staff writer at VICE Sports, and Mo Dakhil, a former video coordinator for the Clippers and Spurs, joined the show to dissect the following:

  • What’s our big takeaway from these Finals?
  • How much did our opinions on Kevin Durant change, if at all?
  • What can other teams possibly do to compete with the Warriors in the future? What could derail the Warriors, if not another team? If it is another team, who is it? (And is it someone other than the Cavaliers?)
  • Was there anything the Cavaliers could have done to make this NBA Finals more competitive?
  • Why did LeBron James say he’s never joined a superteam?
  • If the Warriors simply ran back their 73-9 team instead of adding Durant, would they have beaten this Cavaliers team?
  • Where does this Warriors team stack up against great teams from the past?

Finally, we rail against past players who use their platform to demean the accomplishments of the great teams that follow them. It’s bad for the game! Why do we do this?
