The World's Best Players on the Biggest Stage

0

The NBA Finals isn't just about rooting for your favorite team, or rooting against a team you hate. It's about watching basketball at its highest level and we got that in this series.

Every basketball fan was looking forward to this matchup. Part three of the Warriors and Cavs rivalry. But there were two individual matchups we were especially excited for. The matchup at the point guard position didn't disappoint. Curry had his best Finals yet, with 26.8 points and 9.4 assists per game. On the other end, Kyrie Irving was spectacular, averaging 29.4 points per game, including 40 points in the Cavs lone win. But the story of this series is the matchup between the two best players in the world.

Last year Curry and LeBron James seemed to be the best two players in the league, but Curry didn't play like a top two player in The Finals. Even when the Warriors won in 2015, Curry played well but didn't live up to his MVP status. But this year, with LeBron and Kevin Durant, we truly got to see the two best players in the world playing at the top of their game. Here's a look at their ridiculous numbers.

LeBron: 33.6 PPG, 12 RPG, 10 APG, 1.4 SPG, 1 BPG. Shooting 56.4 percent from the field.

Durant: 35.2 PPG, 8.4 RPG, 5.4 APG, 1 SPG, 1.6 BPG. Shooting 55.6 percent from the field.

In 2012, LeBron won his first title against Durant. Durant was great in those Finals, but it wasn't enough. Now that's the case for Lebron.

"He's the only person I was looking at since 2012," Durant said about LeBron after game. "He's the only guy that can look me eye-to-eye."

Ever since 2012 Durant has been waiting for his moment to go up against the league's best player on the biggest stage. And when he got there five years later he didn't disappoint. We are so lucky to watch two all-time greats on great teams playing at their highest level. In the '80s the NBA was all about Celtics vs Lakers. Larry Bird vs. Magic Johnson. Now, it's all about Warriors vs. Cavs. Durant vs. LeBron.

"I told him we tied up now and we're going to try to do this thing again," Durant said.
