Belmont Stakes 2017 live stream: How to watch Test of the Champion online

There’s no Triple Crown up for grabs, but the race still should be pretty fun.

Horse racing’s stretch in the forefront of public consciousness comes to an end Saturday with the Belmont Stakes.

NBC will have main coverage, including the race itself starting at 5 p.m. ET

Post time for the race is set for approximately 6:37 p.m. ET with the race scheduled for 6:50 p.m. ET

There are no Triple Crown hopes this year, with Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming unable to win the second leg (The Preakness) and skipping the Belmont. Cloud Computing, the Preakness winner, also will not compete in Saturday’s race.

With neither in the field, Classic Empire should have a better chance of living up to expectations and winning one of the sports’ premier races. Classic Empire came in a disappointing fourth in the Kentucky Derby and was outlasted down the stretch against Cloud Computing, finishing second.

Patch, the one-eyed fan favorite, will also compete in the Belmont.

The Belmont will always have the albatross hanging around it compared to the other Triple Crown races. When the crown’s at stake, the Belmont feels big — because it is. This year, it unfortunately fades to being just another horse race — a shame for the unique challenge that is the Belmont Stakes.
