Andrew Painter scratched from start against Diamondbacks
PHILADELPHIA — Andrew Painter was scratched from his start on Sunday against the Diamondbacks with a migraine. Right-handed pitcher Zach Pop served as the opener.
Painter entered the game in the third inning from the bullpen. Pop allowed one run over two innings.
Philadelphia will have to navigate the series finale with a short bullpen. Orion Kerkering and Brad Keller pitched on back-to-back days and are likely to be unavailable for Sunday’s game. Pop, Tim Mayza and Jonathan Bowlan are stretched out to pitch multiple innings.
Catcher J.T. Realmuto is also out of the lineup after taking a foul ball off his right foot for the second time this week during Saturday’s 4-3 win against Arizona. Realmuto was originally scheduled to play in Sunday’s finale against Arizona. He is “sore,” manager Rob Thomson said pregame.
