O’s Fall To Rangers, Eflin Exits With Injury
On Tuesday night the Baltimore Orioles were beaten by the Texas Rangers (4-1) by a score of 8-5 in front of 13,542 fans. Not only did the O’s lose their second game in a row, but they also lost starter Zach Eflin to right elbow discomfort in the fourth inning.
Despite allowing an Ezequiel Duran homerun in the third inning, Eflin was sharp, allowing a run on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 7 in 3.2 innings of work. The hope is that his elbow issue is not the worst-case scenario.
Four relievers tried to pick up Eflin and none of them did very well. Yaramil Hiraldo (1.0 IP, 3 R, 2 H, BB) and Anthony Nunez (1.0 IP, R, 2 H, 2 K) each coughed up homeruns to the Rangers. Yennier Cano (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing a run on 2 hits in the sixth inning and Grant Wolfram allowed 2 runs on 3 hits with 2 strikeouts in 1.1 inning of relief.
On the plus side, Pete Alonso (2 for 4, R, RBI) hit his first homerun as an Oriole. The blast went 400 feet into the Baltimore bullpen.
Taylor Ward had his first career four hit game, going 4 for 5 with a double, 1 run scored and 2 RBI.
Gunnar Henderson doubled in 2 runs in the fifth inning while Colton Cowser and Blaze Alexander each recorded a hit and scored a run.
Baltimore’s hitters did strike out 11 times and only worked 1 walk off of Texas pitching.
