Mets Make Several Cuts; Lambert, Ewing Among Them
The New York Mets announced several different cuts prior to their game on Sunday:
- Pitchers: RHP Carl Edwards Jr., LHP Joe Jacques, RHP Ryan Lambert
- Catcher: Kevin Parada
- Infielders: Ryan Clifford, Jackson Cluff, Grae Kessinger, Jacob Reimer
- Outfielders: Ji Hwan Bae, A.J. Ewing, Jose Ramos
Each of the above players are being assigned to minor league camp.
The most notable of the group, based off performance throughout spring, are right-handed pitcher Ryan Lambert and outfielder A.J. Ewing. Lambert has flashed unreal stuff and has struck out eight over three scoreless spring training innings. Meanwhile, Ewing has a 1.090 spring OPS and is 8-for-21 overall with four extra-base hits and four stolen bases.
New York also reassigned some other top prospects in infielders Ryan Clifford and Jacob Reimer. Clifford only posted two hits across 20 at-bats in spring training while Reimer put forth a stronger effort with an .804 OPS across 16 at-bats.
With the return of Francisco Lindor to the lineup today, further signifying a strong possibility he is available come Opening Day, the need for the likes of Jackson Cluff and Grae Kessinger decreases.
There are only 11 days until the Mets’ first regular season game so the cuts will continue to file in.
