Report: Mets to Retire Carlos Beltrán’s Number

The New York Mets will reportedly (Mike Puma of the New York Post) retire Carlos Beltrán‘s number at some point during the 2026 season. Initially they were planning to induct Beltran into the Mets Hall of Fame alongside Lee Mazzilli and Bobby Valentine on May 30, but they will now wait for his number retirement to induct him.

Carlos Beltrán was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in January, and after deliberating for a couple of weeks officially decided he will be inducted with a Mets hat on his plaque. Beltrán will be only the third player to be inducted with a Mets cap, alongside Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza.

Carlos Beltrán is a .279/.350/.486/.837 hitter with 435 HRs, 1587 RBIs, 312 SBs, 70 bWAR, and 67.4 fWAR. As a Met he slashed .280/.369/.500/.869 with 149 HRs, 559 RBIs, 100 SBs, 31.1 bWAR and 29.3 fWAR.

In his career he amassed many accolades including playing in nine All -Star and placing in MVP voting seven times, while winning three Gold Gloves, two Silver Sluggers, the 2013 Roberto Clemente Award, and the 1999 AL Rookie of the Year Award.

Carlos Beltrán currently works in the Mets front office as a special advisor to president of baseball operations David Stearns.
