MLB Announces Mets’ Spring Breakout Roster

0 2

Major League Baseball announced the rosters for their annual Spring Breakout games, and the Mets’ roster of top prospects is loaded with talent and several top-100 prospects. The Mets’ Spring Breakout game will take place on Thursday, March 19th, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Aside from Nolan McLean and Carson Benge, all of the Mets’ top prospects will be present on their roster.

40 Mets in total made the preliminary roster, including a handful of international free agents who are yet to make their stateside debut. The Mets put 22 pitchers and 18 position players in their player pool in total, highlighted on the offensive side by top-100 prospects A.J. Ewing, Jacob Reimer, top hitting prospect Ryan Clifford, and 2025 first-round selection Mitch Voit. Behind the dish, catching prospect Chris Suero has already clocked a pair of homers in big league spring training games, and is the team’s top catching prospect.

As for international free agents, Elian Peña will be making his stateside debut during the Spring Breakout game. Peña was awarded the highest signing bonus in team history, and crushed the ball in his professional debut last season in the Dominican Summer League. At only 18, he’ll be the youngest player participating.

As for pitchers, fast riser Jack Wenninger leads a staff that includes several prospects in the 10-18 range in the system, including Jonathan Santucci, Zach Thornton, and Will Watson. In the bullpen, flame-throwing righties Dylan Ross and Ryan Lambert both have chances to crack the Opening Day roster, while Ben Simon looks to continue to impress Mets brass.
