Morning Briefing: Mets Prefer Short Deal With Tucker
Good morning, Mets fans!
The Mets are playing the long game in the 2025 free agency period as they try and replace the exodus of talent they saw walk out their doors this winter. One name that has been tied to the Mets of late is free-agent outfielder Kyle Tucker. Will Sammon of The Athletic released a piece Wednesday detailing how the Mets and others view Tucker’s market. As part of the article he reported that the Mets are looking for a short term (three years or less) deal, while teams like the Blue Jays are willing to go four years or more in order to snag the All-Star outfielder.
Despite not wanting to go the extra years, Sammon has heard that Mets officials believe a Tucker signing would “dramatically boost” the Mets’ World Series odds and help close the gap with the Dodgers. The Mets are in hot pursuit of Tucker, but not wanting to go long-term with him and the level of competition for him in the market, does not make this an easy battle.
