Rumor Roundup: Marlins Sign Fairbanks; Mets Sign Baumann
The Mets have signed veteran righty reliever Mike Baumann, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Baumann last pitched in the major leagues in 2024, a year in which he pitched for five different teams. He accumulated a 5.55 ERA in 57 games, pitching for the Orioles, Mariners, Giants, Angels and Marlins.
Armed with a plus fastball, Baumann averaged 96.5 mph on the gun in 2024, with an extension that was 71st percentile in the bigs.
However, sheer velocity was not enough for the now-30-year-old, whose average exit velocity of balls put in play against him was in just the 3rd percentile.
After four years in MLB, Baumann spent 2025 pitching in Japan, and had a 4.20 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Multiple Reports: Marlins sign RHP Pete Fairbanks
The Marlins have signd reliever Pete Fairbanks to a a one-year, $13 million contract. The Athletic’s Will Sammon first reported the signing and ESPN’s Jeff Passan was first on the terms.

Fairbanks became a free agent after the Rays turned down his $11 million option to start the offseason. Now, the righty moves southward in the state to South Beach to add some more legitamacy to the back end of the Marlins’ bullpen.
The 32-year-old righty spent parts of seven seasons in Tampa Bay pitching to a 2.98 ERA during his time there, after beginning his career in 2019 with the Rangers.
