The Winter Baseball Season is in full swing in the Americas
The Winter Baseball Season will be busy as usual in the Americas. Six leagues already started their seasons, while two more will open between late November and December.
64th Cuba's Serie Nacional
The first league to open was the Cuban National League (Serie Nacional). The 16-team classic opened in September. The 75-game regular season will run through December 17, and the postseason will involve the top eight finishers. The quarterfinals will open on December 20, the semifinals will start on January 4, 2026, and game one of the final series is scheduled on January 15. All the postseason series will be best-of-seven.
Las Tunas won the 63rd edition in July 2024.
Mexico has pro baseball all year
The Jalisco Charros won a memorable 80th edition of the Mexican Pacific League (Liga del Pacifico).
The Nayarit Jaguares and the USA-based Tucson are the new teams of the 2025-26 season, which will run through December 30. Each team will play 68 games, and the top eight finishers will compete in the playoffs. Each series (quarterfinals, semifinals and final) will be best-of-seven. The final series is named Serie de Mexico.
Pure Caribbean Experience
The leagues in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela are some fan-favourites.
Six teams compete in the Dominican Professional League (LIDOM). The Escogido Leones are the defending champions.
After a 50-game regular season running through December 23, the top four finishers will compete in the best-of-seven semifinals, with the winners advancing to the best-of-seven final.
The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) will celebrate its 80th campaign. It's an eight-team league and the Lara Cardenales are the defending champions.
The 56-game regular season will run through December 27. The top four finishers will advance to the semifinal round-robin. The fifth participant will be the winner of a Wild Card series (Serie del Camino) between the fifth and sixth-place teams. The top two finishers of the five-team round robin will compete for the title in a best-of-seven final series, due to open on January 23, 2026.
The Puerto Rico Roberto Clemente Professional League (LA PRO) is a six-team league. The Mayaguez Indios are the defending champions.
The 40-game regular season will run through December 28. The top four finishers will then compete in the best-of-seven semifinals, with the winners advancing to the best-of-nine final.
Nicaragua rebranded
Nicaragua Professional Baseball rebranded as the Nicaraguan Professional Baseball Association (APBN - Asociación Profesional de Béisbol Nicaragüense), with the league now named La Profesional-Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Mayor Nivel en Nicaragua. It's a five-team league and the Leon Leones are the defending champions.
The 32-game regular season will run through December 20, with the top four teams advancing to a semifinal round-robin, scheduled from December 22 to January 7. The first and second-place teams after the round robin will play the best-of-seven final.
Late starts
The four-team Colombia Professional League (LPB) will open on Friday, November 28. The Barranquilla Caimanes are the defending champions.
The 30-game regular season will run through January 10, 2026. The top two finishers will compete in the best-of-seven final, scheduled from January 12 to 20.
The Panama Professional League (PROBEIS) announced a new franchise, the Colon Jaguars, but hasn't yet confirmed the number of participants for the 2025-26 campaign. The defending champions are the Aguilas Metropolitanas.
The regular season, tentatively 30 games, will open on December 15 and run through January 15, 2026. In the 2024-25 season, the regular-season winner advanced to the final series, while the second and third-place finishers played a best-of-three playoff.
