WBSC joins Global Sport Community in joint Climate Action statement at COP30

The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has joined fellow signatories of the UNFCCC’s Sports for Climate Action Framework in endorsing a collective Sport Communiqué, which was presented during COP30, taking place from 10 to 21 November 2025 in Belém, Brazil.

The Sport Communiqué represents a unified call from the global sports community to accelerate climate action and recognise sport’s powerful role as a catalyst for positive environmental and social resilience. It also highlights how sport, as a universal language, has a key role to play in climate strategies and as a tool for engagement and resilience. The communication invites governments and other institutions to formally recognise and invest in the role of sport as a climate action partner.

By endorsing the Sport Communiqué, the WBSC reaffirms its dedication to sustainability under its Sustainability Strategy 2024–2030. The WBSC continues to work toward tangible climate objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly on carbon measurement, sustainable event management, and education through sport.

“Sport connects people and inspires global unity – and with that comes a shared responsibility to protect our planet,” said WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari. “Through the Sport Communiqué, we stand together with the global sports community to call for stronger recognition of sport as a partner in climate action. The WBSC is committed to doing its part, through baseball and softball, to drive awareness, resilience and a more sustainable future for all.”

Earlier in October, Yoori Jung from the WBSC Integrity Unit represented the WBSC at the Sports for Climate Action Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2025, held on 6 October in London in conjunction with the Sport Positive Summit 2025.

The AGM gathered Sports for Climate Action Framework signatories to review collective achievements and facilitate peer learning and collaboration across the sport sector to accelerate climate action.
