Men’s Softball headlines The World Games kickoff in Chengdu: Venezuela walk off Argentina in thriller as Singapore leading Australia
Welcome to Opening Day at The World Games 2025 Men's Softball competition in Chengdu, China. With one day to go until the much-anticipated Opening Ceremony, men's softball leads off the sports programme with four games at the Xindu Better City Softball Arena. A two-run homer by Pedro Flores gave Venezuela a 3-2, walk-off win over Argentina to open The World Games.
Unfortunately, games 1 and 2 of the men's softball competition have been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances and will be rescheduled. An announcement will follow within the next few hours.

Argentina 2 - 3 Venezuela - Play by play and Boxscore
Down to their last strike, Venezuela walked off Argentina 3-2 in a dramatic finish at Xindu Better Softball Arena. Trailing 2-1 with two outs and a full count in the bottom of the seventh, Franklin Benitez kept Venezuela alive with a clutch single to right field. Pedro Flores then delivered the decisive blow, crushing a two-run homer over the center field fence to give the reigning World Champions their first victory of the tournament.
Argentina took an early lead in the first inning, scoring two runs. Teo Migliavacca drew a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then scored on an RBI single from Ladislao Malarczuk.
In the bottom of the fourth, Venezuela cut the deficit to one run with a no-doubter home run from Engelbert Herrera, making it a 2-1 game.
Then in the bottom of the seventh Pedro Flores decided the game with only one swing.
For Venezuela, Maiker Pimentel won the game, going the distance with two runs on five hits, striking out 10 opponents. Argentina's Huemul Mata pitched 6.2 innings giving up four hits and three runs, while striking out seven. He was the losing pitcher.
Singapore vs Australia - Play by play and Boxscore
Singapore took control of the game against the two-time world champions by scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. Bin Mohamad Huzaifie and Dominic Han drove in runs with RBI singles, and Han later scored the third run on a wild pitch.
The Asian team broke the game open the very next inning with a six-run rally. Foo Say Kian, Zu Ray Low, and Huzaifie each drove in a run, while Shun Kai Cheoh delivered a two-run single, extending the lead to 9-0.
However, in the bottom of the inning, Australia responded with four runs on four hits, including a two-RBI single by Haydan Dobe, plus RBI singles from Ryan King and Matt Wickham, cutting the deficit to 9-4.
