With everything going on, this is hardly a day off
In Mariners News . . .
- I feel a bit bad for Cal Raleigh that these leaked before the Derby, but they rule, and they’re out there now, so you can see them too:
Just ran into the guy from Rawlings on his way to drop off Cal Raleigh's special Big Dumper HR Derby bats at the ballpark. How cool are these!

- The Mariners made four of the first 100 overall picks in the Draft yesterday, getting rave reviews from LL for the Kade Anderson and Nick Becker picks in particular:
- With the third overall pick, they selected LSU Sophmore LHP Kade Anderson.
- With their second pick, they went with C Luke Stevenson out of UNC.
- With their second-round pick, they went overslot for prep SS Nick Becker.
- And their third-round pick was Griffin Hugus, a RHP from Miami.
Around the league . . .
- Amid their All-Star hosting duties, the Braves found time to put Austin Riley on the IL with a strained right abdomen. In his place, they’re recalling Nacho Alvarez, Jr., who has a 70-grade baseball name.
- With the first pick in the Draft, the Nationals selected shortstop Eli Willits, who is both the youngest player in this year’s Draft and the youngest first-overall pick since Ken Griffey, Jr.
- Bob Nightengale has a feature on the Witherspoon twins going in the Draft and, get this, they love their mom.
- Bruce Levine reports that the Cubs will host the 2027 All-Star Game.
