The Mets announced they have signed right-hander Zach Pop to a one-year major league contract. Pop has made four big league appearances this season, posting a 13.50 ERA over 5 1/3 innings. To make room, right-hander Austin Warren was optioned to Triple-A, and Tyler Zuber was designated for assignment.

The organization also made international history, signing 19-year-old right-hander Matteo Marelli from Rovigo, Italy, as reported by Metsmerized’s own Michael Mayer. Marelli is the first European amateur player ever signed by the Mets and will begin his pro career in the Dominican Summer League.

Francisco Alvarez homered for the fourth time in seven games with Triple-A Syracuse.

Kodai Senga continued his rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton, allowing three earned runs on six hits over 3 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four on 68 pitches (44 strikes). Before going on the injured list, Senga was 7-3 with a 1.47 ERA in 13 starts.

Bartolo Colón announced that he has been inducted into the Latin Baseball Hall of Fame. Over his MLB career, Colón went 247-188 with a 4.12 ERA and 2,535 strikeouts in 3,461 2/3 innings.

The White Sox announced the sad passing of former All-Star closer and 2005 World Series champion Bobby Jenks. Jenks passed away on July 4 in Sintra, Portugal, after a battle with stomach cancer. He was 44.

Infielder Jeimer Candelario confirmed he has signed a minor league deal with the Yankees and will report to Triple-A on Monday. Before being released by Cincinnati earlier this season, Candelario hit .113/.198/.213 in 22 games.

The Astros signed right-hander Héctor Neris to a major league contract and optioned right-hander Jason Alexander to Triple-A. Neris has posted a 7.80 ERA over 15.0 innings in 23 appearances this season.
