Soto, Mets Offense Break Out in Win Over Phillies
The New York Mets, reeling and needing a win after losing seven games in a row, got what they needed on Saturday. In the team’s 11-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies, New York’s offense finally gave them the jolt they desperately were looking for with seven home runs. It’s the fifth time in their history that they’ve hit seven home runs in a game, all of them solo. It was also led by the top three in the order, most especially Juan Soto, who hit two home runs, along with four hits and four RBI.

Juan Soto’s Big Night
With the Mets needing a win, you have to turn to your superstars to carry the load. For the Mets, the organization has been waiting for Soto to have that big breakout night where he puts on a vintage Soto performance. He’s been better in the month of June, but Saturday was vintage Soto. It was the kind of performance the Mets have been looking for from him when they signed Soto. Soto notched his first home run in the third inning to give the Mets a 4-3 lead. In his next at-bat, he topped himself. In the top of the fifth, Soto launched a 437-foot home run to extend the Mets’ lead to 5-3. Soto added a two-RBI single with the bases loaded in the 8th inning as the Mets took a 10-4 lead.
Brandon Nimmo’s Two-Home Run Performance
Not to be outdone, Brandon Nimmo decided to hit two home runs of his own. He got the scoring started with a home run in the first inning to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead. In the top of the third, Nimmo golfed a home run to tie the game 3-3. Nimmo continues to be a big bright spot in the lineup since moving to the No. 2 spot.
Francisco Lindor Snaps Slump
While he’s been battling through a broken pinkie toe, Francisco Lindor has also been struggling at the plate as a result. Lindor was 0-for his last 20 before he hit a home run in the third inning to get the Mets back into the game after the Phillies took a 3-1 lead. In a 5-4 ballgame, Lindor snuck a double that scored two runs that stayed fair down the right field line. That extended the Mets’ lead to 7-4. The Mets have now won 28 consecutive games when Lindor has hit a home run.
All in all, the top 3 in the Mets order went back-to-back-to-back in the top of the third inning. They went 8-for-14 with five home runs, nine RBI, and five runs. Jared Young and Francisco Alvarez also added solo home runs.
Player of the Game: Juan Soto
Soto’s hot June continued, and he broke out when the Mets needed it on Saturday with two home runs, four RBI, and four hits.
