0 0

Good morning, Mets fans!

The New York Mets on Saturday announced that they acquired right-handed pitcher Justin Garza from the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations. He wasn’t the only hard-throwing righty they acquired — they also announced that they signed Julian Merryweather, who has hit 102 mph in the past, to a minor league contract.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com did a comparison on the two pitchers acquired by the Mets on Saturday and said the biggest common denominator is their velocity. Merryweather topped out at 99 mph in 2025 and has hit 102 mph in the past; Garza has hit 98 mph in the minor leagues.

DiComo also noted on X on Saturday that Francisco Alvarez and his partner are due to welcome their child into the world any day. The due date is Monday. So should Alvarez need to leave, Hayden Senger is in Denver with the club on the taxi squad as Alvarez’s replacement.
