White Sox Minor League Update: April 6, 2025
The Double-A Barons were postponed due to rain, but everyone else won, for an affiliate sweep!
Charlotte Knights 9, Norfolk Tides 8 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
Although the Knights couldn’t get the job done Saturday, their bats were rejuvenated Sunday, putting up 12 hits as a team to help snag the win against the Tides and split the series with three wins apiece. The offensive production was led by shortstop, Chase Meidroth, who was 3-for-3 with a home run, double, two walks, two RBIs, and to cap it off, he scored four times. Meidroth was involved in six of Charlotte’s nine runs, and his OPS is now 1.250 to start the season — with three home runs in seven games! It really might be time to bring him up to the big leagues and start getting more major league at-bats in, because Jacob Amaya is simply not cutting it for the White Sox. For example, Meidroth got more hits tonight (three) than Amaya has all season (two).

Meidroth kicked off a late-game rally in the bottom of the eighth with a walk while the Knights were still chasing two (down 8-6). Singles from Edgar Quero and Tim Elko, along with a wild pitch from Tides hurler Corbin Martin put Charlotte within one. While the offense was clicking all around, it was Tristan Gray who came through in the clutch, ripping a two-run, stand-up triple that put the Knights up, 9-8.

The pitching started out a bit rocky with Justin Dunn on the mound, as he gave up six runs on seven hits — including two home runs — and walked two, which gave the Tides an early lead. Dunn is an intriguing player, but can struggle with walks; still, he has been striking opponents out at a high rate, with eight on Sunday, marking 17 on the year. He has pitched just 8 1⁄3 innings, folks.
Tyler Gilbert also gave up a couple of runs in the fourth, which had brought the Tides to eight runs, though the rest of the bullpen was really solid. Garrett Schoenle, James Karinchak, Adisyn Coffey, and Dan Altavilla combined for 4 2⁄3 scoreless innings and gave up one hit, two walks, and struck out four, with Coffey earning the win and Altavilla getting the save.
Notable: Meidroth starting at shortstop pushed Colson Montgomery over to third base. Let’s keep an eye on that.
Birmingham Barons vs Knoxville Smokies — POSTPONED
The Barons and Smokies series finale was postponed due to weather, and will be made up at a later date. Bham hits the road to the Chattanooga Lookouts next week to begin a six-game series on Tuesday.
Winston-Salem Dash 11, Rome Emperors 3 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
The Dash carried over their offensive hot streak into Sunday, which led to an eight-run rout of the Emperors to win their first series of the year. Winston-Salem mashed 10 hits as a team — six of 10 were extra-base hits — and were efficient when they had runners on the bases, going 4-for-9 with RISP and leaving just four on base. Sam Antonacci and Alec Makarewicz drove in six of the 11 runs and combined for four hits, with each hitting a homer and Makarewicz tagging on a double.
The offense provided plenty of run support for the pitching staff on Sunday, and Aldrin Batista had a solid, 3 2⁄3 inning start. Batista gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits, and walked the same amount of batters as he struck out (three). From there, the bullpen was outstanding, giving up just one hit and one more run for the rest of the game.
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 7, Hickory Crawdads 5 (Gameday box) (Statcast box)
The Cannon Ballers were trailing a couple of times in this game, but Braden Montgomery’s seventh inning double with the bases loaded to put Kannapolis back on top was the difference in this game. Other key offense contributors were Ronny Hernandez (2-for-4, two RBI), and Mikey Kane (3-for-4, 3B, HR, 3 R, RBI), who helped provide the run support needed to steal the game back.
The pitching was a bit wishy-washy at times, but at the end of the day they got the job done. Nick Pinto gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits, and allowed a home run and two walks while striking out three. The bullpen took over from there and was solid outside of Carlton Perkins, who blew the save in the top of the seventh. Perkins was lucky enough to be bailed out by his teammates after the Dash took the lead in the bottom half of that inning ... so on top of the blown save, Perkins vultured the win. Baseball really can be a strange sport sometimes.
