Vinnie suffered the injury on Saturday.

Vinnie Pasquantino has a Grade 1+ hamstring strain, according to MLB.com reporter Anne Rogers. He won’t participate in exhibition games in Texas on Monday and Tuesday, but he plans on playing in the season opener on Thursday.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a Grade 1 hamstring strain is a “mild muscle pull/strain.” Pasquantino suffered the injury on Saturday when he tried to beat out a double play ball.

On Saturday, the Royals acquired veteran Mark Canha, who played 50 games at first base last year. Canha is starting at first base in the exhibition game in Texas tonight. The Royals also plan to play Salvador Perez at first base on days when Pasquantino is not on the field.

Royals fans hope that Vinnie does not miss much time this year. When Pasquantino went down last September due to a thumb injury, the offense went into the tank. Royals hitters had a line of .203/.275/.302 without him in September, by far the worst line in baseball, with less than three runs per game on average.
