The Mets fell 4-1 to the Nationals on Saturday. Opening Day starter Clay Holmes pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs. Max Kranick, who had been solid this spring, struggled in relief, surrendering two earned runs on three hits over 1 1/3 innings.

Speaking with Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Mets catching prospect Hayden Senger, who has a real chance to make the Mets’ Opening Day roster, revealed he spends his offseason stocking shelves at Whole Foods.

“Four days per week, Senger wakes up around 5 a.m., reports to Whole Foods an hour later and stocks product until noon, DiComo wrote. “Typically, Senger moves groceries from U-Boat carts onto the sales floor, lugging all sorts of items around the store. Often, he’ll pick up an extra shift on a Friday or Saturday. More than once, a coworker has asked him for an autograph.”

In 55 total games across three different minor league levels last season, including Single-A, Double-A, and Triple-A, Senger batted .234/.302/.363/.665 with three home runs and 29 RBIs.

On Monday, Mike Vasil will start for the Tampa Bay Rays, against the Mets. Vasil was drafted in the Rule 5 draft by the Phillies, before immediately being dealt to the Rays. Over four appearances this spring, Vasil has a 9.45 ERA.
